About Anthony Leatherwood
Anthony Leatherwood’s journey was one of purpose, heart, and service. From an early age, Anthony knew he wanted to make a difference in the world. After earning his degree in computer engineering from Georgia Tech, he began working in the medical equipment field—an experience that opened his eyes to the profound comfort and dignity that compassionate care could bring to those nearing the end of life.

That moment marked the beginning of Anthony’s lifelong calling to hospice and palliative care. He went on to serve as Executive Director of Gentiva Hospice and as President of the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (GHPCO), where his leadership, empathy, and vision inspired all who worked alongside him.

Even while facing his own battle with cancer, Anthony continued to lead with courage and grace, remaining steadfast in his commitment to improving the quality of life for patients and families across Georgia. His passion, kindness, and strength continue to resonate deeply with those who knew him—and through this scholarship, his spirit of service lives on.

The Anthony Leatherwood Memorial Scholarship was created to honor his legacy and support professionals who share his dedication to hospice and palliative care.

This scholarship provides full registration to attend the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s 2026 Annual Conference. It offers recipients the opportunity to learn, connect, and grow in their hospice and palliative care practice—continuing Anthony’s legacy of compassionate service.

To qualify, applicants must:

• Be a Georgia resident

• Be currently employed in the hospice and/or palliative care field and in good standing

• Intend to continue their career in hospice and/or palliative care

• Hold a professional license in good standing (if applicable)

If applying on your own behalf, a letter of recommendation from a professional colleague is required.

• Applications must be submitted or postmarked by December 19th, 2026 to be considered for the following year’s conference.

• Only one completed application per individual will be accepted each year.

• Scholarship recipients will be notified by letter and/or phone.

• The scholarship covers conference registration fees only; recipients are responsible for travel, lodging, and meals (discounted hotel rates are available through GHPCO).
